I really find Couch Co-op to be a good way to brings friends together and families as well. Its a nice thing to feel like you played the game together and were actually in the same room. I was reading the most recent Game Informer and I was reading an article and it basically said that Couch Co-op is hardly being done because developers feel it is not used enough.
I would like to know how they know this... do they sit in my living room and watch what I play? Know how often I play it? Do they do that to everyone BUT me? That is doubtful. It does require different coding to make sure everything runs smooth on both split screens, but it is worth it.
Look at what the Kinect games are doing lately? It is all about spending time with your family and friends playing games together. Many of them are 2 player games and you do the objectives TOGETHER. I find that to be an amazing way to bring gaming into a family dynamic.
One game I really recommend checking out is Little Big Planet. I find that it really gets families connected. You can sign in on your own account and play your own sack person, instead of playing the generic one UNLESS it is YOUR account. This really makes people want to play. I can play on my own and then when I decide to play with friends or family I can get on their account or they can get on mine, but still play as their sack person with their account.
Bringing families and friends together without them having to network their computers and play in seperate rooms... OR in the same room but on a different system, on a different tv. I think it brings a different feeling being in the same room as someone and playing the same game. I do not see why it is shunned... granted Split-Screen can be kinda troublesome on a smaller tv.
There really are not a ton of games that allow 2 player co-op, and I would love to see more of it. One thing I want to see more then anything.... is being able to sign into my own account and play multi-player split screen in a CoD game. Why has that not been done? If I am at a friends house and want to play with them, I either have to sign into my own account and they have to split as my double... or the other way around. I dislike that, and really wish they would change it. Think of the amount of people that would love that! Siblings can play together, spouses, and friends... WITHOUT being forced to be a (2).
I think we need more Couch Co-op in our lives!
